34. SETTING SIGHTS : On Services

Tulip shifted its focus to get into services last fiscal, a move that also reflected in its decision to re-christen itself as Tulip IT Services. 

The company achieved a revenue of Rs 60 crore in the year 2001-2002, up from Rs 35 crore in the year before. 

For the current fiscal, the company has set a target of Rs 100 crore on the revenue front and an ambitious Rs 12 crore of profits from it. 

This year the company has also moved up 10 ranks to occupy #34 slot in the Next 25 Group.

"We have put the processes and the people in place for this," says HS Bedi, MD. The company today boasts of a team of 400 personnel, operating out of 20 locations across the country, up from 18 locations last year. 

On the profitability front, Bedi thinks that his projection is achievable if Tulip focuses on wireless solutions in WAN. The company has also seen some big projects come its way in the WAN domain. 

With a focus on point-to-point and point-to-multi-point connectivity solutions, the company is poised for future growth. 

The signals of this have already started to come in. "We have seen a growth of nearly 80 percent in this quarter as compared to the same quarter last year," says Bedi, dismissing claims that the recovery is slow.

Bedi feels that the service and support of wireless networks will fuel further growth for the company.
