Bare-bone Direct to offer components for notebook assemblers

Bare-bone Direct, a 100% subsidiary of the UK-based Scopeforce, is planning to set up shop in Navi-Mumbai to popularise the concept of notebook assembly. The company is banking on the huge PC assemblers segment for its business.

"The market in India is still believed to be small compared to the western world and this has prompted us to make entry in India," says Ashwin

Bare-bone shall supply all the necessary parts and accessories like HDDs, RAMs, CDRWs, COMBOs and processors, required to assemble customized notebooks. It will also distribute and market barebone notebooks, generally known as whitebox, at a much lower price.

"This could probably enable assemblers to offer laptops with latest technology at a price of Rs 40,000," says Ashwin.

Bare-bone Direction is planning to market its products through a large distribution network which it intends to build in a short span. "We are expecting a turnover of Rs 20 crore in the first financial year. Our target is to sell 500 units per month in the initial stage," says
Ashwin.

According to him, the advantages of buying a Bare-bone Direct product are many, starting from low price to high performance with self branding facility.

The company also hopes to offer specialized service throughout India with the least turnaround time.
