Capellas quits HP

HP
announced that Michael Capellas was resigning as HP President “to pursue other
career opportunities.” Speculation is mounting that he would take the reins at
embattled US telecom group WorldCom. This comes in the wake of WorldCom chief
executive John Sidgmore's departure from the company, which is working under
court supervision to survive as a restructured company after applying on July 22
for bankruptcy protection.

His position in the new HP will not be filled, and HP chairman and CEO Carly
Fiorina inherits his responsibilities. Just how Capellas' departure will affect
the channel policies of the company is yet to be seen. But there is no doubt
that Fiorina now wields the power in the new HP.
