CMDA gets registered trademark

Pune-based Computers and Media Dealers Association (CMDA) recently got its
trademark registered for the name CMDA. Incidentally, Delhi-based Computer Media
Dealer's Association (CMDA) has also been using the same acronym for its
association. The distinction between the two associations is that while CMDA
Pune represents IT dealers across the region, CMDA Delhi represents only
partners dealing in media products.

Sunil Gugale, President, CMDA Pune said, "Our intention was that before we
receive ISO certification, we should register ourselves." On being asked whether
he anticipated any conflict with other organizations using the same acronym,
Gugale said, "We have no problem with other organizations using the CMDA
acronym, unless and until our interests are jeopardized."

Commenting on CMDA Pune's move, Puneet Singhal, President, CMDA Delhi said,
"We are not aware of any such trademark registration being done by CMDA Pune."
He added, "If they have registered CMDA Pune and not just CMDA, we don't have
any issue with it."
