Follow UsOrissa police has arrested over a dozen youths who were involved in stealing computers and electronics items from private and government shops, cyber cafes and computer institutes in Bhubaneswar. Members of this gang would steal the goods in the night and sell them to some local computer institutes and individuals as well, District Superintendent of Police, Arun Sarangi informs.
The police had registered complaints of thefts from shops, houses, telephone booths and cyber cafes and constituted a special police team to probe into these incidents. Acting on a tip-off, the team raided several premises last week and seized a large number of stolen items. These included 26 PCs, eight color televisions, two photocopy machines as well as music systems, typewriters, public telephone center and billing machines. "We have arrested 13 people and registered cases against 23 others for purchasing items from them," Sarangi adds.
The buyers, who included a bank officer and a computer professional, would purchase the goods from these youth at throwaway prices.
