Hailing from a small village called Bherunda, near Ajmer in Rajasthan,
Moolchand Jain opted to move out to Chennai in 1988 soon after completing his
graduation. He was looking for a suitable business and the city became his first
choice since he found it entrepreneur-friendly.
His ideology and vision to run a 100 percent customer-oriented company has
made his venture Mahavir Computers, a leading name in the computer components
and IT business. Situated in the famous Ritchie Street in Chennai, the company
clocked a turnover of over Rs 6.5 crore during 2001-02.
THE EARLY DAYS
Initially, Moolchand moved to this city on a trial basis. "I really
wanted to find out if Chennai would be a better bet for me. Fortunately,
everything went smooth and today I find Chennai the best place to live in and
carry my business," he says with a contented smile.

Moolchand took assistance from one of his relatives to get into business and
in 1988 started a partnership firm called Phytech Instruments. This company
primarily dealt with industrial electronic products. However, realizing that
this was not exactly what he wanted, just a year later he started his own
venture.
And from what started as a small IT business establishment, has today earned
a place of repute among vendors and partners alike. Apart from being Intel’s
GID, Mahavir Computers is also one of the leading dealers in computer components
and peripherals including hard disks drives, memory modules, monitors, printers,
server racks, tape drives, MO drives, zip drives and so on. The company has
dealership agreements with several leading brands in the industry, including
Logitech, Creative, Philips, Microsoft, Typhoon and others. Besides, the company
is also the dealer for Samsung, Aver Media, Snazzy, Sony, Kodak, Asus, Seagate,
Quantum and is the prime dealer for Umax.
HARDWORK PAYS OFF
Hardwork is what Moolchand enjoys most and makes sure that he stays ahead in
this business. This aptitude has helped him to shape the growth of Mahavir
Computers and build it into a financially strong company. Mahavir Computers
recorded a turnover of Rs 5.2 Crore during 2000-01, which was a growth of about
21 percent compared to revenues of Rs 4.3 Crore during 1999-00. "Despite
the prevailing economic conditions during 2000-01, a 21 percent growth was an
encouraging sign for everyone at Mahavir and we are optimistic about achieving
the same performance during the current fiscal and beyond," says Moolchand,
confidently.
