Gemini Communication
2010 was a good year for Gemini Communication. A healthy YoY growth with a balanced distribution of 52 percent coming from IT/BPO, followed by 26 percent from wireless and telecommunications, 17 percent from telecom services and five percent from RFID. Strong presence in the WiMax space with key partnerships and acquisitions also helped Gemini, especially the acquisition of Rosy Blue Wireless Africa for 4G services. Gemini's subsidiaries, PointRed
Telecom, SANAT Technologies, Gemini TRAZE RFID and Veeras Infotek, contributed to its overall growth. Gemini currently has orders worth over Rs 311 crore in hand.
Gemini Communication has partnered with Midas communication an year back for a Rs 260 crore BSNL order, for the implementation and deployment of enhanced digital wireless access system, with broadband Internet access across Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Haryana. Gemini has bagged the order from Midas for the implementation of the EDWAS project. Gemini Communication, along with its subsidiary PointRed Telecom, has won a $ 93 million contract from BSNL to deploy an IEEE 802.16e mobile WiMax network. The network will connect CSCs across India for delivering e-governance service for commercial broadband services.
The BSNL tender envisages supply, installation and commissioning of 134 base station controllers and 1,340 base station sites in three states for the purpose of providing voice and broadband data services.
Three major projects like Naval Dockyard datacenter project, BSNL's Rural WIMAX project and Defense Communication projects were deployed and lucrative contracts were bagged during year 2009-10. The company increased country presence from 110 to 194 and opened offices in the US and acquired Southern African ISP. It also entered into a joint venture with GEOSS for automated meter solutions and opened RIMS center in Coimbatore offering storage and security as a service.
