IPGen's softswitch expected within a year

IPGen, the wholly owned subsidiary of Axes Technologies, will make its Class 4 softswitch solution, Genovation MSP (Multi Services Platform), available within a year. The solution, which will be sold through partners and distributors, is presently undergoing trial with a US-based carrier service.

"We didn´t want to launch the solution without having completed our round of internal tests and field trials. The present trial started sometime in August this year," said IPGen technology specialist S
Nityananda.

The company will also be looking at the global market for its Linux-based single protocol softswitch solution, which was developed by its parent company, Axes Technologies in Chennai. The solution, which has already been deployed by two Indian customers, has been in development over the last year and a half and is in field trials for over six months now.

"The solution was originally developed to address the SMB segment which might not be ready to invest the sum required for a full fledged complex softswitch solution. And we have found good leverage in that segment for the product so far. Once we have enough references behind our back, we will be looking at the international scene as well," said
Nityananda.

The Genovation solution is based on Sun Solaris platform though some of the protocol stacks developed by the company can be ported to Linux. According to Nityananda, though the company will not be looking at the entire softswitch being ported to Linux in the R&D sense, it will definitely provide the same if a customer requests it.

The company has also developed platform services for Class 5 applications and has a group within it writing applications specifically for that area. Nityananda though said that the company would be emphasizing on Class 5 applicability only after a year and a half of establishing itself in the Class 4 segment.
