Designer, developer and marketer of digital media and accessories, Lexar
Media Inc announced that it will extend its line of Professional Series
CompactFlash cards with 2 GB and 4 GB capacity cards, speed rated at 32X.
The new 2 GB and 4 GB CompactFlash cards are especially suited for
professional digital photographers who prefer shooting in large file formats
like TIFF and RAW.
"The trend is towards greater capacity memory cards to accommodate the
image files generated by high-resolution cameras and allow for more continuous
shooting. With 2 GB and 4 GB cards, professional photographers will appreciate
the ability to shoot RAW and TIFF files foregoing the interruption associated
with changing cards mid-shoot," says Ron Glaz, Program Research Manager,
IDC.
"Many professional photographers have asked for higher capacity
cards," says Eric Stang, President and CEO, Lexar Media.
"We are pleased to be the first to bring 4 GB CompactFlash to the
market, which is made possible by the leading 4-gigabit quad die-pack flash
memory from Samsung. Our close relationship with Samsung allows us to optimize
our controller with their 4-gigabit flash memory device and deliver the largest
CompactFlash available."
The 2 GB will be Type I and is expected to retail for $699.99. The 4 GB card
will be Type II and is expected to ship in the second quarter for $1,499.99.
