UPS manufacturer Luminous Electronics is all set to inaugurate its second manufacturing facility at Baddi in Himachal Pradesh. The company has already completed the first phase of its construction and is now getting ready to start the full scale manufacturing of its products.
"This facility is being built as part of our Rs 30 crore investment plan and is spread across six acres of land. Though we are producing some products in the facility as of now, full-scale operations would only start by the end of December 2004," informed Luminous director Sunil
Bhalla.
The company already has one manufacturing unit in Delhi and this second one is likely to provide a much needed firm grip to the company for its Indian as well as overseas operations. As of now the company is selling between 12,000 to 13,000 UPS per month and as it completes its new manufacturing facility the company plans to go into small and very small cities as well.
"Our capacity will increase and so will our reach. As of now we are making close to 42,000 units (UPS, inverters, batteries) per month and as we start our Baddi unit on a full scale this figure would touch 75,000 mark. We are not that firmed up in the South and West, so moving forward, we are going to reach out in the Southern and the western part of the country," Bhalla explained.
Increasing its thrust towards service - the company also plans to focus towards empowering its channels on the service front. "We have developed a service franchisee model and we already have 22 such franchisees all across the country. We are going to add another 65 to 70 service franchisees to this figure," he added.
At present, close to 20 percent of the company's sales come from the export segment and it is looking forward to increase this figure to around 30 percent.
Welcoming the union budget for this year, Bhalla said that this move is surely going to increase the PC penetration in the country. "If the PC market grows, then the UPS market will grow at a greater rate. Going by the MAIT figures - if the PC
market grows at 34 percent, the UPS market will grow at around 40 percent," he explained.
