NetApp solutions for midsize enterprise

NetApp has launched storage solutions to address the mid-size enterprise (MSE)
market in India. NetApp Fabric-Attached Storage (FAS) 2000 product line - the
FAS 2020 and FAS 2050, an enterprise-class storage technology scales to help MSE
customers maximize their data infrastructures while minimizing complexity,
overhead and technical staffing cost.

Speaking at the launch, Soumitra Agarwal, MD, NetApp, said, "It was
important for us to bring the enterprise capabilities to the mid size market.
Even the MSE needs to address the same issue faced by the large enterprises like
manage fewer storage systems, non-disruptive backups, protection against
disaster, improve storage utilization and save power. The new solution extends
the same functionalities to the mid size customers."

The MSE according to NetApp manages multiple servers and supports the data
storage needs of 100 and 1000 employees and the annual storage spend should be
at least Rs 20 lakhs.

"The single most important benefit NetApp offers customers with these
new solutions and services is the ability to accomplish more with fewer
resources - particularly in terms of headcount," said George Thomas,
country manager, India and SAARC, NetApp.

Along with the storage solution, NetApp has also introduced two new services
to help MSE to adapt and migrate to new technology easily. "It is partly
bundled with the product," said Thomas.

The customers and partners new to NetApp can avail the rapid deployment
service to set up and configure new systems. Once systems are up and running, it
also provides for storage availability audit service, which helps customers take
full advantage of the capabilities that are already built into their systems to
make the most of their storage environment.

Currently, NetApp focuses on the Semicon and Internet verticals. The company
to target the growing telecom, bank and oil and gas sectors, informed Thomas.

The FAS entry-level configuration would cost approximately Rs 10 lakhs.
