Numeric-Socomec complete a year

Chennai based UPS manufacturer Numeric Power systems and Socomec, another UPS
player have completed one year of their joint venture. Last year both the
companies entered a joint venture to tap into the three-phase UPS market in
India. The JV was called Socomec-Numeric UPS Private ltd.

Speaking on the occasion R.Chellappan, MD Numeric Power Systems said,
"The requirement of a three-phase UPS has increased tremendously. Over one
year Numeric- Socomec JV UPS has received a good customer response and market
traction and this partnership is all set to win many large projects."

According to Michael Carter, CEO, Socomec SA, France, "The UPS market is
growing rapidly and more than 1000 numbers of the three phase UPS ranging from
80KVA to 800KVA have been installed in IT, telecommunications, data processing
centres, health care, banking, service and manufacturing industries."

Apart from the three-phase UPS, Socomec also produces single phase UPS while
Numeric manufactures the three-phase. However, according to a bilateral
agreement between the two, Numeric will not enter the three-phase market India
alone and Socomec would not be selling single-phase UPS in the country.

Earlier Socomec launched the new variant of 120 KVA UPS in its
"MASTERS" range in the Indian market. The company would soon launch a
new UPS with "Fly wheel" technology. "Though the cost would be
three times the battery installation, it would be cost effective in providing
long time solutions where replacements of batteries cause major environmental
problems," Carter informed.

According to Chellappan, " Since the three-phase UPS needs greater
technical expertise to sell, the channels have not been inducted into the trade
at present but we plan to educate partners about the technology." He
further added that a major partner has been signed for taking the product into
market. The details of the same would be revealed after the final pact is
signed.

Stating that the 25 percent of Numeric's total revenue comes from the
single-phase UPS, Chellappan said, "The channels are doing phenomenal work
for us and we have many programmes for their development as they carry our
products throughout the country including upcountry regions."
