Opportunities Ahead

NSS (Networking, Storage and Security) seminar series organized by DQ
Channels in association with Linksys, Quantum, Gajshield and Netcore had an
overwhelming response in all the three active metro cities. The seminar held in
three cities beginning with Delhi (July 14), followed by one at Bangalore (July
19) and finally at Mumbai (July 21), had experts from the networking, storage
and security share their knowledge and vision with the audience.

Apart from getting abreast with the latest trends in technology the seminar
gave an opportunity to know what's the entire buzz about the network, storage
and security in IT arena is all about.

Agreeing that threats to an organization and its data come from both within
and outside, experts felt that the best way to tackle the same is to look for
integrated solutions.

While virtualization and integration technologies would hold the key, they
would provide the channels huge business opportunity given that the need for
solutions that are both stable and agile would grow. Indicating that convergence
is a key market trend in the area of storage and security, NOCs and SOCs would
be a key trend along with due importance being given to aspects of 'physical'
security in the future, they felt.

The highlight of the seminar apart from the informative presentations from
the experts was the panel discussion, which was like an open forum where even
the audience participated actively.

The power packed panel discussed the practical issues related to deployment
of technology. Issues like post deployment crises were among the highlights of
the seminar. Expressing their opinions at the panel discussion on the theme 'Share,
Store and Secure', experts from Quantum, Linksys, Netcore and Gajshield said
that customers' concern regarding storage, security and networking are many
and varied. According to them customers today are trying to understand the need
for integrated solutions, and as the market matures, adoption to the same would
become easier.

With networking being the next big thing, the market for networking products
at SOHO level is growing.

The seminar also threw light on the assistance solution providers yearn from
vendors, in the lack of which they end up losing some great business. Panelists
pointed out that in the name of support from principles, regular communication
on technological updates, demo units and trial products is required, in addition
to training for manpower. However, every company claims to be fulfilling these
criterions, still there is one grave concern that needs urgent attention.

Elaborating further on this it was pointed out that certain technology
companies use few markets as test beds for launching their products which should
not be there, for as soon as they stop doling out this particular category of
product they seize support as well, which eventually paralyzes the whole gamut
of things. Ultimately it is the partner who has to face the music and becomes
the object of customer's wrath.

The other topics that witnessed huge participation among panelists of the
seminar and participants were those pertaining to Wi-Fi and Wi-Max in addition
to opportunities SIs could unleash in storage outsourcing arena.
