37. Sogo Computers: Brand Exercise

Sogo Computers recorded an overall turnover of Rs 52 crore in 2000-2001, against its previous year revenue of Rs 22 crore. With a growth of 136 percent, it is among the few companies that has achieved a three-digit growth. The company hopes to better its performance this year by touching a turnover of Rs 80
crore.

According to Narayan Rao, Director, the company distributes products from Sony, Acer, TVS-E, Intel, Samsung and Western Digital to name a few. It has a channel network of 200 authorized partners throughout Bangalore. 

Narayan attributes the company's success to its team of 40 employees and the goodwill it has earned since inception. Sogo Computers opened its second branch in Koramangala, Bangalore, which will promote MNC PCs. 

Narayan says that the company is planning to launch Sogo branded PCs in the market. According to him, there was a soft launch of the same last month. A decision to officially introduce it will be taken after analyzing the response from the market.

To beat the slowdown, the company is building up a strong after-sales and support team. It will focus on vertical segments like government sector, educational institutions, corporate and SME segments to boost the revenue flow. However, when it is launched, the Sogo brand of PCs will be targeted at the home and SOHO segments.
