Realizing the downside of being box pusher, Delhi-based sub-distributor Spark Technology and Testing has decided to scale up the value chain. The company has reworked its profile and has incorporated system integration activities to its already existing servicing and distribution portfolio.

Coinciding with this the distributor has also renamed its firm from Spark Technologies and Testing to Spark Technologies and segregated its work processes into distribution and corporate system integration. “We have now enlisted focused guidelines for our workable processes to bring in more synchronization into business. The strategic business shift will bring in notable changes in the way we work and service our customers,” said S Nautiyal, MD, Spark Technologies.

Commenting upon its business evolution Nautiyal said, “The dynamics of information technology business are fast changing wherein the sub-distribution partners layer has acquired a certain level of redundancy. The box pushing business has now been dominated by major players leaving very less scope for small sub-distribution companies, who have to resort to drastic price undercutting or else have to bring in innovation into their business model.”

He further added that vendors have started eliminating the surplus sub-distribution layer, giving way to retailing. Taking all these things into consideration, Spark took up system integration coupled with enhanced focus on servicing as the safest option to keep its business going. “From now onwards Spark's emphasis would be on major system integration works in PSU's, government and corporate sectors,” Nautiyal noted.

Spark clocked revenue turn over of Rs 32 crore last year and anticipates touching the Rs 40 crore mark this fiscal. Until now Spark's major chunk of revenue of 60% was generated through distribution, while system integration made up the rest. But from now onwards the company is looking forward to system integration as its main revenue earner.
