Tata Elxsi Limited (TEL), the Bangalore-based technical computing arm of Tata Group grew by 22 percent to record a agency revenue of Rs 122.8 crore in 2000-01 out of a total revenue of Rs 179 crore. Of the toal revenue, 70 percent came from domestic agency operations with the rest coming from software exports and services. These figures have enabled the company to stand at 16th position in the Silver Club.

Tata Elxsi's business domains include software design and development services in high technology areas, which are offered to the global market, while systems integration services are offered to the domestic market. Services and manufacturing verticals remained the major money earners. Tata Elxsi is SEI-CMM level 5 certified and has eight representative offices worldwide and over 12 field offices spread across the country. It opened offices in London to boost its European business.

In India, the company has set a benchmark in the networking space with its systems integration solutions, which includes CAD/CAM, film, video and broadcast, network design and implementation of scientific and commercial computing, to name a few. 

Also TEL's unique customer-oriented quality management system has been the key driver for the company's success. The ISO 9002 certification for marketing and support operations helped it give brand image and credibility to its solutions. 

The company believes that global business competition is driving commercial enterprises to redesign their business processes. And the challenge for TEL lies in making effective use of technology to build and operate information systems that best fits one's business model.

It bagged the 'Best Performance Awards' in three categories from SGI, during the recent Asia Pacific Channel Partners Conference. The conference, which was held at Cheju Islands, near Seoul was the first of its kind, conducted by SGI. The awards were given away based on the maximum revenue generated by the SGI resellers for the particular category. The three categories in which Tata Elxsi bagged the awards were for Unix workstation - Asia South, Unix server - Asia South and Unix workstation - Asia Pacific.

Tata Elxsi has also got the 'Best Technology Solutions Partner' award from Compaq. This was given away during the Compaq Annual Partner Meet at Goa, in April, 2000. 

Being a customer driven solution provider, the company assisted its customers in configuring the right solutions to leverage their existing information assets and build on them to suit the changing business needs of organizations. 

Also, it is targeting to generate proportionally equal revenues from domestic systems integration and software exports, with both revenue streams showing sustainable buoyancy.
