The Sky's the Limit
The enterprise and infrastructure
software landscape is evolving at an extraordinary pace. The market
is vibrant, with a resurgence of customized and innovative offerings
around software solutions. Research firm, Gartner, in a recent study
said that China and India continue to be the growth engine of the
software market in the region and currently represent the largest and
the fourth largest software markets in Asia Pacific. The study
reveals that, India also has much local market potential, while the
country's continuing integration with key global economies is
generating software revenue growth in all key industries. Of late,
India has emerged into a well known market for the enterprise
software industry, and the customers are focusing on parameters like
deployment model, regulatory compliance and data consolidation. IDC
expects the infrastructure management software market to experience a 12 percent
YoY growth and return to double digit growth rates during the
forecast period up to 2014. Nitin Mittal, Consultant of UK-based
Saviance Technologies said that, the enterprise software market,
which includes a diverse set of software for different functions
such as HR, sales, marketing, finance and IT is a mature market (with
a range of two percent to 10 percent compound annual growth rate).
Subhomoy Sengupta, Group Director, Microsoft Dynamics India believes
that, the complexity of an IT system is a challenge for most IT
departments in larger companies, from both a data management and a
business perspective. “One of the most significant trends in the
CRM market is adoption of on-demand CRM by customers of all sizes,”
said Sengupta. The enterprise software market is growing at a steady
pace, and Sengupta informs that, there will be an increase in
adoption in the public sector which is being seen as a key
opportunity to strike gold. Manufacturing has always been and will
continue to be one of the most sought after sectors to deploy IT
solutions.
The adoption of ERP in the professional
services space is also growing at a faster pace to bring in
operational efficiencies. For mid-size organization with highly
specialized business processes-such as book publishing, commercial
construction or apparel manufacturing-Microsoft Dynamics ERP
software delivers highly targeted solutions that meet the specific
needs of the vertical business. The offering is aimed at automating
and streamlining the most important business processes, helping
improve productivity and providing visibility into every area of
operation. Ashok Dash, Country Sales Head, Ramco Systems (India &
SAARC) said that, the enterprise software solutions space is
witnessing some interesting trends. “The most significant direction
that the enterprise software solutions market is moving towards is
cloud-based offerings. Every player in the fray is jumping onto the
bandwagon. Hosted, private
cloud, community cloud and public cloud offerings are the order of the
day,” said Dash. Another
trend in the market is the increasing role of mobile computing as an
integral part of the enterprise
software offering. Open architecture and the web have been key
facilitators in this process.
Organizations that have made significant investments in IT
infrastructure and resources still prefer the on-premise model for
their enterprise software deployment. A key parameter for them is the
availability of a business process platform that can be leveraged by
the organization's IT bandwidth to develop ancillary or
collaborative solutions around the ERP, believes Dash.
Rajendra Dhavale, Director-Technical
Sales, CA Technologies, said, “India is among the leading countries, in
which the adoption of
infrastructure management (IM) software remains healthy, according to
the latest study by some leading analysts. The country is expected to
continue to take the lead as far as investments in IM software are
concerned.” Chip Salyards, VP, BMC Software, Asia Pacific said
that, customers are seeing cloud computing as the platform for new
business as opposed to their traditional focus on saving cost and
efficiencies. “In today's business environment, customers have come
to rely on the uninterrupted availability of platforms, applications,
and data. From customer relationship management and enterprise
resource planning, to employee communication and collaboration, a
failed application or system can be costly and disruptive,"
commented Salyards. BMC offers a unified BSM platform that
simplifies and automates IT processes, improves decisionmaking, and
orchestrates workflow across cloud, virtual, distributed, and
mainframe resources. Cloud computing-public, private and
hybrid-will continue to evolve. IT service management with ITIL
version three will further mature. Customers will continue to look
towards self service and automation. This will take center stage as
it improves and cost pressures will continue, albeit not for the sake
of reducing costs but for aligning IT investments to deliver more
value to the business. Automating IT will be seen as a priority to
save costs but equally important to increase service levels in this
competitive market, added Salyards.
Ravichandran H, Product Specialist-BTO,
HP Software (HPSW) believes that, the adoption of software automation
to simplify, standardize and manage the compliance needs is witnessed
increasingly. HP has invested heavily in the past few years in both
internal R&D and marquee acquisitions. Consequently, HPSW
introduced several solutions of management to benefit customers.
Referring the growth drivers, Ravichandran said that, data
protection, records management, business service management, hybrid
cloud and its management, are some of the growing areas. Ramesh
Loganathan, VP-Products and MD, Progress Software India, said that
on application platforms, primary shift is in enabling cloud based
solutions. “There are also application platforms coming up, which
help abstract the application from various cloud platforms-by having
an abstracted packaging model that enables to get the same
application onto multiple cloud based hosting platforms," quoted
Loganathan. Newgen Software recently deployed one of its latest
enterprise offerings, Customer Communication Management (CCM) at a
leading Indian bank. “As enterprises will create more and more
content, including diverse content types such as rich media, mobile
content, print content and documents generated from business system,
ECM and BPM use will follow suit and expand as well. However, the
real challenge would be the ability to automatically capture and
structure this content and be able to utilize it for real time
decision making,” commented Diwakar Nigam, MD, Newgen Software.
Although infrastructure software including, Enterprise Content
Management systems (ECM), Database Management Systems
(DBMS), Document Management Systems (DMS) are mature, software vendors
would continue to reap
the benefits of these technologies by innovating, extending their
offerings beyond the traditional deployment models. This would be
done by embracing new technologies such as cloud, including
Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS) and
Software as a Service (SaaS), concluded Nigam. Infor India, which is
one of the leading SPs of enterprise software, offers Service
Oriented Architecture (SOA) that help integrate all applications and
ensures smoother implementation. Souma Das, VP-Sales and MD, Infor
India said that, the ERP market in India is definitely promising,
“however India has got a long way to go when it comes to improving
ERP in terms of technology, scope and applicability in terms of
opportunities and venues, penetration in terms of sectors like
education, employment and the state run offices." Infor ERP
solutions solve issues like costs and technical difficulties and
provide easy and quick implementation at really affordable price
point. “Infor offers business specific software, software that is
simple to buy, easy to deploy, and convenient to manage," said
Das. Infor offers ERP solutions, SCM solutions like warehouse
management, transpiration management, demand planning, advanced
planning/scheduling; Enterprise Asset Management (EAM), CRM;
Financials Management System (FMS) and Performance Management (PM).
“Infor solutions for mid-market and SME will encapsulate features
such as low cost and less complexity. Options such as subscription,
leasing and deals with system integrators will appeal to this segment.
Our domain
experts in every solution area have the know-how to help address the
specific business problems
and lower total cost of IT ownership,” quoted Das. In order to meet
the long-term needs, Infor is providing a smooth evolutionary path to
support continuing business and technology improvements.
THE GAME CHANGERS:
The landscape around enterprise
software is in the adoption state and there has been a lot of
expected traction in 2011. Though the price pain
points continue to be on top in the minds of the IT managers, the role
of SPs can not be underlined.
Today, customers usually tend to shift their focus to a single point of
contact for all their IT
needs, and the hardcore box-pushers are now transforming into
well-equipped integrators. Within a crowded galaxy of enterprise
software providers and integrators, is Delhi-based Trifin
Technologies, which has executed several software projects with
technological expertise. The company won several contracts and has
added new customers to its software business. Emerging on top, Trifin
Technologies has become one of the pioneer software solution provider
in the country. Though, the year 2010 happened to be competitive, the
company has managed to achieve $2 million from
solution business. “There is good number of deployment done by our
team in software space such as infrastructure, storage, security and
backup/replication and these are done in various large enterprises
who are well-known brands in the country,” said Nitin Aggarwal,
Director, Trifin Technologies. He added that they are going to
concentrate more in software space. "We shall focus to sell the
software as a solutions ie combination of software, hardware and
services in more strong and competitive manner. We have focused on
storage business especially from last two years. This has helped us
to sell other software solutions like MS, Adobe , AutoCAD, backup
software and replication to our customers," quoted Aggarwal.
Today, as the customers are looking for
single vendor to serve their IT requirements, Trifin is committed to
sell software as a complete solution beyond just a product delivery.

Devendra Taneja, Director of Delhi-based PC Solutions, which is
pioneering in solution offering throughout North India said that, the
SMBs, who were reluctant earlier are now considering the adoption of
enterprise software solutions. Today, the SMBs are going ahead with
standard ERP solution, whether it's from Microsoft, Oracle or SAP. PC
Solutions is optimistic about the market trends, and have recently
deployed cloud-based ERP solution in one of the leading manufacturing
and export houses in the country. “Of late, the deployment rate is
soaring, and SMBs are looking at it for a long-term business
benefits,” added Taneja. With a turnover of more than Rs 150 crore
during the last fiscal, the company has developed an expertise around
enterprise software implementation. PC Solutions is executing

products include eProsys-a workflow enabled CRM-based electronics
product servicing and management system and Best-B- a enterprise
banking solution.Through Chennai-based development
center, Accel offers customized application development services for
clients in India. The specialization around system integration along
with the ERP application to ensure a single window responsibility for
all the components of infrastructure, is an added advantage for its
customers.
